In the past five years, the institute has undertaken 30 national research projects, including two national key projects, thirteen provincial and ministerial projects, and eight horizontal projects.

The Institute is mainly responsible for the "Condensed Matter Physics" (national key discipline). There are 2 research bases: State Key Laboratory of Crystal Materials, Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Low-dimensional Materials. The main research directions of the current research are: (1) condensed matter theory; (2) magnetism and spintronics; (3) dielectric physics.

Introduction to research direction:

 (1) Condensed Matter Theory: It mainly conducts theoretical research on the electrical, magnetic and optical functional properties of organic solids, including organic spintronics, organic molecular electronics, organic optoelectronic devices and nanostructure transport properties.

 (2) Magnetics and spintronics: mainly study ferromagnetic semiconductors, spin-injected semiconductor heterojunctions, magnetoelectric transport, multi-iron materials, nano-magnetic materials, permanent magnet materials, soft magnetic materials, etc., revealing ferromagnetism Microscopic mechanism of magnetoresistance, anomalous Hall effect, etc.

 (3) Dielectric physics: Mainly studied piezoelectric ferroelectric physics, thermoelectric materials and transport properties, lead-free piezoelectric ceramics, high dielectric constant materials, pressure sensitive materials and conductive ceramics.

The Institute also has a study of bionics physics.
