Director: Ma Yandong

Institute of atomic and molecular physics mainly undertakes the research work in atomic and molecular physics and related fields. It is responsible for the construction of secondary discipline “atomic and molecular physics” under the first physics discipline, which is intersected with other disciplines such as condensed matter physics and photo physics. The institute carries out characteristic development in basic theory of quantum physics and related issues, quantum open system dynamics and its application, atomic and molecular design of materials, atomic and molecular processes on solids and surfaces, ultra-high resolution spectroscopy of atoms and molecules, (cold) molecules quantum dynamics, related research on Terahertz, and the development of ultra-high resolution spectrometer, playing an important supporting role for the construction of physics discipline in Shandong University.

Our institute has a faculty with reasonable age structure and high academic level, which includes the candidates in Taishan Scholar Program of Shandong Province, Qilu Young Scholar of Shandong University, and so on.

The researchers in our institute have undertaken nearly 30 national and provincial research projects, which include Basic Research Project of Ministry of Science and Technology, the Key Project of National Natural Science Foundation, Major Research Project of National Natural Science Foundation. Relevant research achievements won the second prize of national natural science, scientific research outstanding achievement award in institutions of higher learning of the ministry of education, the first and second prize of Shandong provincial natural science, and so on.

The representative academic papers are published in authoritative journals such as Physical Review Letters, Nature Communications, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Nano Letters, ACS Nano, Physical Review A/E.

The postgraduates cultivated by our institute have rich academic achievements. The postgraduates’ theses have received the title of national outstanding doctorate dissertations, Shandong provincial outstanding doctorate dissertations and master dissertations, etc.
