Professor Dai Ying's team realizes the directional manipulation of ferroelasticity on the electronic behavior of two-dimensional materials

Recently, Professor Dai Ying's team found that in two-dimensional ferroelastic materials, precise direction control of anisotropic electronic behavior can be achieved through ferroelasticity, which is of great significance to the development of two-dimensional materials. Relevant research results were published online in M aterials Horizons (13.18) International Journal under the title "Direction-Control of Anisotropic Electronic Behaviors via Ferroelasticity in Two-Dimensional alpha-MPI (M = Zr, Hf)". The first author of this paper is Zhang Ting, a master of 2018, Professor Ma Yandong and Professor Dai Ying are co-authors, and Shandong University is the only author.

Two-dimensional ferroelastic materials have unique structural characteristics and rich physical and chemical properties, which have important application value in memory devices, multi-functional devices and novel controllable devices. At present, the work in this field focuses on the coupling of ferroelasticity and ferroelectric properties, i.e. multiferrous properties, while the manipulation of ferroelasticity on electronic behavior is rarely studied. The team found that the two-dimensional material alpha-MPI (M = Zr, Hf) not only has super-high intrinsic anisotropic carrier mobility, but also has excellent ferroelasticity. After the ferroelastic transformation, the electronic behavior with spatial anisotropy changes predictably: the anisotropic electronic behavior rotates 90 degrees with the ferroelastic transformation, thus realizing the precise direction control of the ferroelastic to the anisotropic electronic behavior of materials. This research result has important application value in the design of novel controllable electronic devices.

In recent years, Professor Dai Ying's team has carried out a series of theoretical studies on the novel properties and applications of two-dimensional materials. Relevant research results have been published in international famous academic journals such as Nano Energy, ACS Nano, Nano Lett., Adv. Mater., Angew. Chem. In. Ed., J. Am. Chem. Soc.

The research work has been supported by the State Key Laboratory of Crystal Materials, the National Natural Science Foundation Youth Fund, the Shandong Natural Science Foundation, the Qilu Youth Scholar Program of Shandong University, the Taishan Scholar Program of Shandong Province and the Shandong Youth Science and Technology Talents Promotion Project.
